Traveling with your four-legged friend is a real pleasure, but it can also be a real challenge when the activities adapted to dogs are not available ! In Rhône Crussol, hairballs are welcome ! Between preserved nature and welcoming places, "dog-friendly" activities are opportunities to discover the region differently, while respecting the well-being of everyone !
Tourist sites
Good to know: most tourist sites accept dogs on a leash !
- At the Crussol castle, stroll through the ruins of this 11th-century fortress ! But be careful with the cushions because there is quite a bit of rockery ! And above all, keep your dog on a leash, because the cliff is steep and an accident quickly happens !
- We don’t necessarily know it, but dogs are allowed in the Caves and at the Musée of Soyons ! On the condition that they are clean and kept on a leash... and be careful with barking because the echo can be impressive with the acoustics of the cave !
- At the Garden of the Ardèche trains your companion will surely be intrigued by the presence of peacocks that walk freely, hence once again the need to stay on a leash ! But otherwise you will not be refused entry !
- For your own safety, it is better to keep the leash at the Vegetal Labyrinth or you will never find your dog! We like to get lost in the maze but we like to come out of it all together !
The House of Wines & Tourism
Here, dogs are welcome !
We love them, we pamper them, and we will be happy to offer them a good dose of papouilles... with your agreement (and that of your four-legged friend), obviously !
Little extra: our reception is air-conditioned! Enough to offer them a refreshing moment during the hot summer days. The cool tiles are often their favorite spot for an improvised nap...
And if your dog is a little thirsty after a walk, no problem: we always have a bowl of fresh water available !
Here, everything is done so that you have a good time... together !
Hikes & walks
Rhône Crussol is a beautiful land for hiking! But you have to think about adapting the difficulty and duration of these to your dog !
Here are some parameters to take into account for their well-being :
- Bet on courses lasting less than 3-4 hours
- Make sure you have access to water (like small rivers)
- Study the type of soil: avoid paths that are too rocky and can injure the pads, and prefer softer ground (grass, earth).
- Avoid obstacles (steep paths) or dangers (toxic plants, wild animals or ticks)
- And make sure it’s not too hot by choosing trails with shaded areas !
- You should find your happiness among all our hikes !
For example, we recommend this hike Saint-Sylvestre that ticks all the boxes : it lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes and goes through the beautiful river of Duzon in forest trails !
Without going on a real hike, you can stretch your legs in the various parks and relaxation areas !
Whether it’s a nice walk on the Voie Bleue in Guilherand-Granges, or along the Mialan in Saint-Péray, with a place dedicated to dogs, such as the Cani-Parc of the Parc Chavaran...
Discovery of the vineyards
Walks, tastings... and dogs welcome !
More and more wineries are opening their doors wide to visitors accompanied by their faithful four-legged friends. Whether for a simple walk in the heart of the vineyards, a visit to the cellar or a tasting, many winemakers welcome dogs with kindness.
For many, their workplace is also their place of life... where their own animals live ! Their dogs accompany them everywhere until the work of the vineyard, and are very sociable, whether with humans or other dogs !
Some communicate clearly on the subject, such as the Domaine Courbis in Châteaubourg or the domains Alain Voge and Matthieu Barret in Cornas, from which come some of the photos of this article...
Many other fields also specify it : do not hesitate to search through their information to check !
Discover a craftsman
We wouldn’t necessarily expect to be well received with a dog at a craftsman’s place, who might be afraid of breakage !
And yet, some of them will willingly accept your companions... if they know at least how to behave themselves, of course !
You can go to see the workshop of Anne Grenier in Charmes-sur-Rhône for example : she makes art mirrors, realizes paintings and sculptures.
At the l'atelier Caméléon in Toulaud you can carry out, by appointment only, workshops and courses of creations of lamps and lampshades, and upholstery courses.
Finally, don’t miss the Poterie du Lardet ! Philippe Jacques works there with stoneware and porcelain and offers pottery courses for adults.
Eat at the restaurant
A lunch at the restaurant ? Don’t leave your dog in the car !
More and more restaurants open their terrace (and sometimes even their room) to well-behaved dogs, to the delight of owners who like to share all their moments with them, including greedy !
Of course, out of respect for other customers and to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible, it is always recommended to have a sociable dog, calm and kept on a leash.
Among the restaurants that show their willingness to accept dogs, we can recommend for example the Auberge de Boffres, the Auberge de Crussol or the Tonnelle… and why not a Michelin star with the Carré d’Aléthius !
Again, it’s best to make a quick phone call beforehand to make sure your dog is being looked after !
Accommodations
Sleep elsewhere, but like at home (and with your dog, of course !)
Dog owners know and deplore it: it is not easy to find accommodation that accepts animals !
If more and more accommodations accept dogs, it is also because the owners trust the owners to respect the premises. Because welcoming a pet, as adorable as it may be, can sometimes pose some challenges: hair on the couch or bedding, small mischief (chewed cushion or scratched carpet for example ^^), or even barking that can bother the neighborhood...
To preserve this beautiful "dog friendly" dynamic, you have a role to play ! Remember to bring your bedding, toys, and something to clean in case of an accident.
Fortunately, a number of hosts accept dogs in Rhône Crussol! Choose your type of accommodation, then choose from the criteria "pets allowed" !
We thank the dogs (and their fathers and mothers) who appear in this article!
