Fancy cycling through the heart of the Ardèche vineyards? Set off on a 2.5-hour wine-bike loop, with local terroir discovery and a tasting at the end, suitable for everyone, including families.
Why not take the time to discover Saint-Péray and Cornas in a different way?
This 2.5-hour wine-and-cycle tour offers you the chance to immerse yourself in the heart of two iconic appellations of the Northern Rhône Valley, via a route designed to combine discovery, enjoyment and accessibility. On an electric bike, you’ll explore the vineyard-filled landscapes at your own pace, whilst listening to commentary that will help you better understand the richness of these regions.
Organised by Cyclable in partnership with the Domaine Rémy Nodin, this audio-guided and GPS-assisted tour guides you every step of the way. It is not just a walk, but a true sensory experience, where the landscape, the narrative and the tasting come together.
Saint-Péray : a gradual immersion in the local area
The tour begins in Saint-Péray, a village renowned for its white wines with a distinctive character. Right from the start, the audio guide provides you with key information: the characteristics of the appellation, the specific features of the granite soils, the influence of the microclimate… All these factors help you to better understand what gives the wines produced here their unique identity.
This introduction offers a fresh perspective on the landscape: every plot, every contour, every aspect takes on new meaning as you walk through it.
"Here, wine is not just discovered in the glass: it can be seen in the landscape, felt in the terrain and understood as you travel the miles"
In the heart of the vineyards : understanding through observation
As you leave the village centre, you gradually find yourself amidst the vineyards. The rows of vines give structure to the landscape, whilst the tranquil surroundings invite you to take in the scene. Far from the hustle and bustle, you gain a real insight into the work involved in viticulture, the layout of the plots and the influence of the terroir on grape growing.
The experience then becomes immersive : what you hear on the audio guide comes to life before your eyes. A simple and accessible way to gain a better understanding of the concept of terroir.
Cornas : get a bird's-eye view
The route continues towards Cornas, with a gradual climb made easier by the electric assist. As you gain altitude, the landscape opens up to reveal a remarkable view of the steep hillsides and the Rhône Valley.
This vantage point offers a truly contemplative moment. It also provides a better understanding of the vineyard’s layout and the distinctive characteristics of this appellation, renowned for its characterful red wines.
A gentle return journey along the Rhône
After this detour up into the hills, the descent takes you down to the banks of the Rhône. The return journey follows Voie Bleue, a pleasant, shaded route that runs alongside the river.
The pace slows, the atmosphere becomes more peaceful: this is your chance to fully enjoy the natural scenery, with its blend of water and greenery, and savour the final moments of the ride.
A tasting to round off the experience
The tour concludes at Domaine Rémy Nodin, where a wine tasting awaits you. Here you will discover a selection of wines from the appellations you have visited: Saint-Péray (white and red) and Cornas (red).
Having explored the vineyards, taken in the scenery and gained an understanding of the terroir’s unique characteristics, the tasting takes on a special significance. It extends the experience by putting everything you have discovered along the way into perspective.
"Seeing the vineyard landscape, learning how the vines are tended, and then heading down to taste the wine just a few minutes later, it’s a truly enriching experience that I never expected to have so close to home! "
