Fancy spreading out a blanket and enjoying the great outdoors? The Rhône Crussol region is brimming with ideal spots for a picnic with family, friends or your partner.
Here are 5 must-visit spots for a lunch break surrounded by nature 👇🏼
1. The Blue Way : from Soyons to Châteaubourg
Running alongside the banks of the Rhône, the Voie Bleue is a cycle and walking path that winds its way between the water and the greenery. Located between Soyons and Châteaubourg, the riverbanks offer plenty of open spaces where you can spread out a blanket, listen to the river flowing and watch the barges go by. Picnic tables are provided along the route for those who prefer to sit comfortably without laying a blanket on the grass. The site is fully secure and equipped with plenty of children’s play equipment, making it an ideal spot for families. The setting is peaceful, with views over the Rhône and welcome shade in summer.
2. The Forest of Saint-Georges : Saint-Georges-les-Bains
Nestled in the hills above Saint-Georges-les-Bains, this forest is a real haven of coolness when temperatures rise. Beneath the canopy, there are lovely clearings where you can settle down in peace, sheltered from the sun and noise. The paths criss-crossing the hills are perfect for a short walk before or after a meal. A favourite spot with the locals, it’s well worth a visit for all lovers of unspoilt wilderness !
3. The Pic Belvedere : Saint-Romain-de-Lerps
For those who love wide-open vistas, the Pic Belvedere is undoubtedly the most spectacular spot in the area. Perched at an altitude of over 1,000 metres on the heights of Saint-Romain-de-Lerps, it offers an exceptional panorama of the Rhône Valley and the Alps on a clear day. Having a picnic here means treating yourself to a meal with a picture-postcard view. Take to the heights, both literally and figuratively, and let yourself be enveloped by this breathtaking landscape.
4. The Gournier Bridge: Saint-Sylvestre
Secluded and unspoilt, the Pont de Gournier in Saint-Sylvestre is one of those places you’d rather keep to yourself. Situated by the water’s edge in an unspoilt natural setting, this spot invites you to relax and take in the peace and quiet. A picnic with your feet by the stream, birdsong in the background… it doesn’t get much more rejuvenating than this.
💧 Water is precious: let’s help preserve these places by following the guidelines and regulations in force.
5. The Crussol Castle : Saint-Péray
A symbol of the region, the medieval ruins of Crussol Castle overlook the Valence plain from their rocky outcrop. Here’s a top tip for your picnic : settle down near the open-air theatre, with the castle towering above you and a breathtaking panoramic view of the Rhône Valley and the Alps below. A unique setting, combining medieval heritage and wide open spaces, for a moment suspended between history and nature.
And to make the experience even more enjoyable, a visitor centre is open during the summer season. Here you can enjoy a tasty break and cool down with a selection of chilled drinks and ice creams, perfect after climbing up to the site or before taking in the panoramic views !
Enjoy your meal and have a lovely walk ! 🌿☀️
Don’t forget to bring your bin bags so you can leave these beautiful spots as clean as you found them.
